Heidelberg Materials has maintained a strong presence in Egypt since 2016, following the acquisition of the Italcementi Group. Italcementi entered the Egyptian market in October 2001 through the first-phase privatisation of Suez Cement, acquiring 25% of the company’s capital and becoming one of its strategic stakeholders. Through subsequent share purchases, Italcementi (now Heidelberg Materials Italy ) became the principal shareholder of Suez Cement in March 2005, together with a consortium of local and international investors. Since 2023, the company has operated under the name Heidelberg Materials Egypt.

With an industrial network of four production facilities located in Suez, Kattameya, Tourah, and Helwan, Heidelberg Materials Egypt is one of the leading cement manufacturers in the country. The company has supplied high-quality building materials to some of Egypt’s most prominent landmarks and continues to support the market amid evolving customer needs and growing demand. Today, Heidelberg Materials Egypt combines a long-standing heritage with innovation, delivering quality grey cement to both domestic and export markets while continuously developing new brands and products. In 2006, the Group also entered the concrete sector through the acquisition of RMB (Ready Mix Beton) and Decom.

Sustainability is at the core of the company’s strategy. Heidelberg Materials Egypt provides Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its cement products, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and responsible construction. Independently verified, EPDs disclose the full environmental impact of products across their life cycle, enabling customers to make informed, data-driven decisions. EPD-certified products support green building requirements and contribute to earning Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credits, helping developers, consultants, and contractors reduce environmental footprints and align with international sustainability standards.

EvoBuild, Heidelberg Materials Egypt’s newly launched cement brand, represents a strategic step towards low-carbon and high-performance construction solutions. Designed to deliver at least 30% lower CO₂ emissions compared to conventional Portland cement, EvoBuild combines technical excellence with circular economy principles – without compromising strength or quality. The brand unifies the company’s sustainable cement offerings under one clear identity, supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030 and Heidelberg Materials’ global sustainability strategy while enabling developers and contractors to build more responsibly and efficiently.

The company is also investing significantly in environmental performance and energy efficiency, including a USD 30 million waste heat recovery system aimed at reducing fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. In parallel, Heidelberg Materials Egypt continues to replace conventional fuels such as natural gas and mazut with alternative fuels, including refuse-derived fuels and biomass, as part of its long-term decarbonisation roadmap.

Heidelberg Materials Egypt employs more than 1,200 people and places strong emphasis on continuous training, safety, and environmental stewardship. All plants hold renewed ISO 14001 certifications under the 2015 standards, with individual plant certifications in place. The Kattameya plant is certified under ISO 50001 for energy management, and the company has achieved ISO 45001 certification for occupational health and safety management systems.

Driving digital innovation, Heidelberg Materials Egypt pioneered the local digital marketplace by launching Egypt’s first online cement store, enabling contractors and homeowners to purchase cement directly from the producer and receive it on site – setting a benchmark for customer-centric innovation in the cement industry.

Beyond Egypt, Heidelberg Materials Egypt has established a strong export footprint. Through HMT Global , clinker is exported to markets worldwide, supported by a robust logistics network and international trading expertise. Additionally, a dedicated export team supplies cement directly to neighbouring countries, ensuring reliable quality, competitive lead times, and professional handling across vessel loading and shipment operations.

Heidelberg Materials Egypt continues to build on its strong legacy by combining operational excellence, sustainability leadership, and digital innovation to shape a more resilient and responsible future for the Egyptian and global construction industry.
