Heidelberg Materials further optimises European footprint and plans to close cement plant in Ranville in France
Heidelberg, 16 September 2026 – Heidelberg Materials France plans a restructuring that would result in the closure of its site in Ranville in the Normandy region. The measure is part of Heidelberg Materials’ ongoing optimisation of its European production network, adapting clinker supply to changing market demands in line with a stronger focus on the end product cement. The company is advancing its cement portfolio towards higher added-value products with lower clinker content, thereby reducing CO₂ emissions.
The step comes after a significant decline in cement volumes following weak construction demand in France due to the current economic environment. A total of 87 employees would be affected by the plant closure. Heidelberg Materials France is committed to developing socially responsible solutions, including redeployment offerings to other sites in France. The company is working closely with social partners, local authorities, and government bodies.
Against the backdrop of a challenging economic environment, Heidelberg Materials France is pursuing an ambitious decarbonisation strategy. To date, the company has invested €650 million in modernising its sites in Airvault (Deux-Sèvres), Beaucaire (Gard), Bussac-Forêt (Charente-Maritime), and Couvrot (Marne). The transformation projects at these sites mark important milestones in Heidelberg Materials’ decarbonisation roadmap.
