Education

Mathias Bücherl holds a Master's degree in IT Management from FOM University of Applied Sciences for Economics & Management Nuremberg, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Business Computer Science from the Cooperative State University Stuttgart. In 2025, he completed the Executive Program in Strategy and Organization at Stanford Graduate School of Business in California, USA.

Career

Mathias Bücherl held various positions in the area of Cyber Security at Deutsche Telekom AG in Germany, Singapore and Mexico from 2013 to 2020. He had a leading role in building the international Cyber Security business, portfolio and operations across EMEA, APAC and Americas. From 2020 to 2023 he oversaw the Cyber Security Business Unit with P&L responsibility, focusing on Governance, Risk, Compliance and Security Operations at Axians in Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

From 2023 to 2026, Mathias Bücherl was Group CISO of Heidelberg Materials, leading the global development and implementation of the Information Security and Business Resilience strategy, focusing on enabling key business opportunities and managing risks across the digital value chain.

Since 1st of August 2026, he serves as Chief Audit Executive of Heidelberg Materials, directing Group Internal Audit with a focus on strategic priorities, risk management and the effective execution of the Group’s strategy to safeguard sustainable business success.

Mathias Bücherl is a standing member of the Heidelberg Materials Information Security Committee.

Complementing his professional duties, he lectures at universities in the fields of Audit, Security and Resilience.
