HeidelbergCement commissioned new cement capacities in Central India

HeidelbergCement has successfully completed the expansion of its clinker and cement grinding plants in Central India. The plants are located in Damoh district (Narsingarh and Imlai facilities) in the federal state of Madhya Pradesh and in Jhansi in the federal state of Uttar Pradesh. Trial runs of the expanded plants were successfully conducted between November 2012 and January 2013 and the production capacities were now officially commissioned. Capital expenditure for the project amounted to €216 million.

With the expansion, annual clinker production capacity of the Narsingarh production site rose from 1.2 to 3.1 million tonnes. An around 20 km long overland belt conveyor, which is one of the longest in India, has been built for the limestone transport from the quarry to the Narsingarh facility.

Annual cement grinding capacity of the Imlai plant was increased from 1 to 2 million tonnes and of the Jhansi plant from 0.8 to 2.7 million tonnes. Clinker for both cement grinding plants is supplied by Narsingarh unit.

HeidelbergCement India Limited, a subsidiary of HeidelbergCement, operates two integrated cement and two cement grinding plants in Central, Western and Southern India. With the expansion of the plants, annual cement production capacity rose in India from 3.1 to 6 million tonnes.

We understand that the Indian Government will be investing USD 1 trillion in infrastructure projects over the next five years which will fuel the growth in the country.”
