Safi Industrial Port

The expansion of the Safi industrial port is a major infrastructure project in Morocco and part of the national port strategy for 2030.

This project aims to support the development of Morocco in the energy and chemical sectors. For instance, the dock expansion will improve logistics for feeding the new thermal power plant with coal to satisfy phosphate chemical supplier OCP's future energy needs.

Safi is located on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, 300 km from Agadir. The existing port is one of the oldest in Morocco. The discovery and trade of phosphate, as well as the commissioning of chemical plants in Safi, favoured the expansion of the port in the past.

Latest work to enlarge the area of the port began in 2014, and is being conducted by SGTM-STFA. By the time the project is completed in 2017, HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary Ciments du Maroc estimates that it will have delivered 210,000 tonnes of marine cement for the project.
