Cement industry launches new global association

Global Cement & Concrete Association aims to support sustainable construction

On 31 January, HeidelbergCement and eight other leading companies in the cement and concrete sector launched the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA). The aim of the new association is to strengthen the sector’s contribution to sustainable construction and to foster innovation along the entire value chain.

Sustainable development and urbanisation as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation are the issues at the forefront of the organisation’s agenda. Through promoting the development of durable, environmentally sensitive buildings and infrastructure, the association wants to enhance the sector’s contribution to global social and developmental challenges.

The London-based association will complement and support the work done by existing associations at national and regional level. GCCA’s founding members are CEMEX, CNBM, CRH, Dangote, Eurocement, HeidelbergCement, LafargeHolcim, Taiheiyo and Votorantim.

In addition to the GCCA, HeidelbergCement is also member of several Green Building Councils and works together with the Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) to create a more sustainable cement industry. Through these partnerships, the company wants to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN as well as realise the corporate Sustainability Commitments 2030.
