Utrecht Bicycle Park
HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary Mebin supplied 300 m³ of self-compacting concrete for the anthracite-coloured, funnel-shaped columns of the world’s largest bicycle park in Utrecht, Netherlands.
The construction of bicycle parks nearby public transport infrastructure is a challenge these days. Because of the limited space, bicycle parks are often installed underground – in this specific case, under a central square. The integration of the bicycle park in Utrecht into the public space is quite impressive!
The project was the winner of the Betonprijs 2017. The Betonprijs awards projects that exemplify creative, unique, and meaningful application of the concrete.
